I have a 1/10 gold coin I purchased in 1986-1987 from a small local coin dealer. I recently started looking into it and thought it was a gold eagle, but it looks like a Saint Gaudens gold coin. I could not find any reference on the internet on a 1/10 Saint Gaudens been made.

What do you think this is? Pictures attached.

Yeah, it doesn't look like it is 1/10th of an ounce of gold. Sorry. I believe that some of those were made of gold, but it is more likely that you have a gold plated mini-copy of a coin and it is unfortunately not worth much, if anything. It's an interesting curiosity to keep around.

Unfortunately, I think that dealer ripped you off with a plated small size replica of a Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle- notice the date of 1908. I would weigh it immediately, it should be 3.393 grams. If it is light, I would recommend taking it to a coin shop that can test for gold content.
Rest in Peace

Is it about half the diameter of a dime? If so, it's a replica/token.

Some of these do exist in 8KT gold. Some also exist in 22 and 24KT. And as mentioned some are just plated. I wouldn't guarantee any of them weigh 1/10 oz.
