Hello, just wondering the value and grade of this coin.
Is it an NSF?
I happened to pick it up along with the entire proof like 1953 (nsf?) set, all coins seem to be in excellent condition as this one is.

It has a pretty nice cameo as do the other coins in the set.

Any help or info would be appreciated thanks.

1953 PL sets can have anywhere from 0 to 6 PL coins in them.Coins were not struck specifically for these sets. You simply got nice coins on hand when your order was processed. The only guarantee from the mint was that they were uncirculated, not specially struck.A set of 6 1953 PL strikes is a rare item indeed.

Some of the better samples of these have been cobbled together from MANY sets. Dealers picked them over and built something that would bring better prices in the 60's and early 70's. Quality was always obvious and the desirable characteristic were the cameos... that was what was hot vs the technical grade.

Ok Thanks for the info.

I never knew that the earlier Canadian sets were put together with a variety of different strikes.

A couple of the coins may actually not be PL, it's hard to sometimes tell in the early Canadian proof likes.

I may put the entire set up in the near future so you all can decide on the strike types.

Still not a bad find for under $200 USD
