I just purchased one of these from a Canadian friend in totally uncirculated condition. This is the new polymer note (I think it's polymer). Do you think it would be worth getting graded and stashed away with my other collectibles?

Picture as soon as I can get my wife to help load it.

I am undecided whether it would be worth getting graded or not. I am leaning towards "not."

Not sure how many of these polymer notes have been sent in to be graded and what the criteria for determining the difference between a GEM UNC and a regular UNC would be.

I would consider getting it graded if you thought it met the crieria for at least a GEM UNC 65 and would use BCS as the TPG since they would likely be the ones more familiar with the new Canadian notes.

I'm not sure why you would keep it never mind grade it.

As a common circulation note, they aren't rare or unique; at least not in Canada. Am I missing something?

I thought these were the first year of issue, which to me is a rarity in itself.

I can't imagine many of them not being spindled, mutilated and folded if what you say about them not being special, so I may have one of the few that don't get s/m/f ed>

At one point this was true of most notes of any previous series. While these will likely not skyrocket in value, I would still consider it a collectible.

I purchased one hundred of these new $100 Canada banknotes on the day they were released by the bank. My one hundred notes are all consecutive serial numbers. I put them in a safe deposit box. Who knows, but I hope to get a reasonable return on my investment someday.

We can walk into any bank and get them uncirculated and pristine. Even in circulation, the bills are remarkably durable and unless you give them a hard fold, they look pretty much perfect.

As an investment, they are more likely to give you a return by using them to buy a government bond or GIC but if I were to collect the note, I would likely not bother grading it.

All of that is of course my opinion and worth only what I get paid for it.
