I ran across this coin, described as "Macedon--Pella, Head of Athena". However, I clearly read AVG, and the portrait more resembles a Roman emperor. As a Roman colonial city, Colonia Iulia Augusta Pella, was established during the rule of Augustus. I have searched on Wildwinds for a match to no avail, so I'm attempting to guess the age by the bust--if possible. I'm thinking Tiberius--any other ideas?

This appears to be the same type I posted back on the 19Th. It's a Semis of Augustus from Philippi, Macedonia, RPC# 1656.

Wow--nice coincidence there!
It sure resembles both yours and the coin on Wildwinds:
An-Interesting-Attribution-Challenge.

PARIUM. Augustus, 27 BC-14 AD, AE (4.37g).

Obv: AVG, bare head of Augustus right
Rev: Two colonists ploughing with a pair of oxen right.

RPC 1565 (uncertain, Philippi?); SNG BN 1439.

There is one here http://www.vcoins.com/ancient/walli...dProduct=533 like echizento suggests that has a very similar bust. But your coin is smaller and heavier.

I also have this same coin but it is so worn you can no longer see AVG on the obverse. On the reverse the colonists are gone, too. Basically mine is just a bust with oxen on the back.

Doucet, thanks for that link too. Wow, they want $185 more than the OP coin. Nice portrait, but I'll pass.
