I found this 1955 cent in a bag of 5000 that I purchased about 15 yrs ago. I started to sort them by decade when I noticed this coin. I have read that this coin would have been the error of the year until the big one was found. Is there any way that I can find a population of this error, and a current value? Thank you, JamesK

It is a doubled die(die variety), not an error. It looks like you have 1955P DDO-002, there should be doubling on the entire motto and LIBERTY. Populations are notoriously difficult to ascertain for die varieties but I believe this one is actually rarer than DDO-001 which has an estimated mintage of 20-25,000. Coppercoins lists values as $30 in F, $55 in VF, and $90 in EF.

Thank you very much for the info. the coin does show doubling on the entire motto and Liberty. I guess I have a keeper for my collection.

Nice find. Man...I need to get my hands on a few boxes of US cents. As of late...My Canadian boxes have been producing a lot less US cents then usual. Time to call my pops and have him make a run across the border.

Congratulations on the find!

Yes this was the first time I opened the bag. I am not finished yet, I just started sorting by decade and am about 1/3 through. I have this thing called work that gets in the way. I will post more finds soon, By the way the re sizer on this site really makes it easy. Thank you to whoever came up with that. Great idea. I just purchased a EDU-SCI Stereo microscope # P21718RT and I can take some pretty neat pics, still learning!
