Hi all, I bought a bunch of 90% silver coin from a friend and in there were two Washington quarters with a die crack which runs from the are in TRUST to the bust of Washington and along the the curve at the bottom and then up into the field at right ending where the red arrow is pointing in the photograph. I have never a die crack like this on a Washington quarter.

Highly unusual for a die to crack in that manner? The line appears to be concentric. Is the line raised or incuse? If incuse, it's more likely PMD from a rolling machine. I'm still learning so this is just my humble opinion. Waiting for the pros to offer their opinions.

The truncation of Washington's bust is a point of inherent weakness in the die design, you will see a similar crack repeated throughout the years on Washington quarters. The leading edges of the eagle wings are another point of inherent weakness with repeated cracks. This crack is a bit larger than usually seen but I have seen others that extend towards IGWT and up across the pony tail.

You just blew my mind. I've always seen it, but I never put it together that George Washington had a pony tail.

At first I thought it was PMD but upon closer inspection with a 10X loupe I saw the line was raised from the tip of the right leg of the are to George's bust and across the bottom and then extending upward out into the field to his right and ending where the red arrow is pointing. The photo does not show it as clearly as it is when in hand. I doubt it has any sort of premium as an error but it is different and I'll keep one of them as a conversation piece.

If the line is indeed raised, I will agree with the die crack diagnosis. It just was not possible to tell from the pic. Nice find.

A scratch will be raised, next to an indented groove.

There is no indented groove next to the raised line on these two quarters. I'll have to get out the macro lens and take a new picture that will show it in better detail.
