Ok, so as many of you know, I have an incredible... INCREDIBLE skunk streak with half dollar silver coins. I am currently at just under $35 THOUSAND searched without a single silver.

I am looking for suggestions on which bank to open with. I think the most important factor would be the courier for the coins?

I believe my current banks gets them from the FED (Yellow or Black writing on white rolls and boxes are usually long and flat, sometimes square).

I think finding a bank who gets their coins from Brinks would be my best bet for better luck?

Thanks everyone in advance...

Instead of just boxes, why not go to a bunch of banks, and get their loose halves to see if you get any luck that way? I haven't received my first box from my bank, yet, so that's what I'm doing. I've done it twice, and found a '65, and '66.

1. Go to several banks and apply for a job there.
2. Marry a bank teller or if not married, find a bank teller and then marry her.
3. Go to the Federal Researve and apply for a job there
4. Marry someone that works in the Federal Researve place
5. Check out possible jobs with companies that picu up and/or deliver coins to banks.
6. Marry someone that works for a company that picks up coins from a bank
7. Start a series of robberies of all banks just for coins.
8. Rob the Federal Researve place.
9. Apply at the Bank of America Bank. Then you can get even with customers like the tellers I know that do that when working there.
10. Just go to a coin show and buy what you need or want.
Rest in Peace

I could be wrong but my luck with Brinks boxes is horrible, 5 40%'s out of six boxes. It seems that everyone who is finding a lot of silver is finding them in Spring & Sons boxes.

Hope that helps, I believe the courier that wells fargo uses has the String & Sons boxes.

$35K? Unless my math is off, that's 70 boxes? Wow that's insane!

Wow, that's a massive amount of coins. Are you marking coin rolls/bags you search to make sure you're not going through the same coins over and over?

Try driving outside you're usual search area to see if you've got better luck elsewhere.

That's all it is---- luck.

On the other hand, that's 350 boxes of nickels. Avg. just 1 35% per box and you'd have 661.66 in silver.(current prices)
Probably a few decent sets, most varieties, a pile of double-dies and a dozen rolls of proofs. Time for a change in game plan?

Yes that is correct, 70 boxes... Over about a 6 month period. I have marked sides of coins and different markings and I'm not getting the same coins back. So they are "fresh" coins which baffles me because I would expect to find something.

I do search dimes and average one silver dime per box.

I have gone to 5 different banks in the area and none had loose halves or any customer wrapped roles. So that didn't work out that time.

I am working 50 hours per week and going to school for my masters, so I don't have much leisure time to drive to spend any great amount of time driving unfortunately :(

Forget boxes not worth the effort. Go to small town banks and get what they have. Call ahead to see if they have any, if they do, tell them that you are coming to get them. The tellers usually are very glad to let you take them all away so they do not have to count them any more. Always take your leftovers to another bank two towns away and never, ever ask for coin at the dump bank.

Be sure to ask the bank if they can order boxes of halves before you join. I tried to order at 4 different TD Banks in DE and SC and they all could not before I was told TD does not order them.

Stroud, I'll have to try that too, great point. Maybe I need to get a list and just call them. What do you ask for? Half dollars, loose halves, customer wrapped rolls of any coins?

And great point to Ozerman.

Thanks everyone!

I've been using BoA and they have string and sons boxes. Yellow and White. I think their carrier is Guardia. I also just opened an account at PNC so I'll see what they have. My finds haven't been that great, but 35k...wow! I wonder if you could write you dissertation on that?

Spring and Sons sells supplies. You can get 36 S&S wrappers at Dollar Tree.

I never have had luck with the boxes.
I just ask the tellers for their rolls and whatever they have next to them.
Got 3 Rolls of 1/2's yesterday with 1 40% half in each roll.(PNC Bank)

Hi Wrestling, Glad to see you're making the leap. I say it's different depending on the region of the country you live in. For instance, apposed to what others have said, my BOA uses brinks. I had a 5 box streak of zero, zip, ziltch. They were all marked up by searchers. If my first box wouldn't have been good, I may have gave up. Glad I didn't. I would suggest that if your current bank is local, try national, or vice verse. As others have said, the courier is important but just because they use S&S (or some other wrapper) doesn't mean it's the same courier. Also, I went to my bank and said 'This is my hobby account. I need to make sure you won't have an issue ordering coin for me.' Make sure you have someone who is happy to support your hobby. It's not fun walking in to a bank where you can almost feel them 'sigh' when you walk in.

Okie
