Welcome to the forum Libertyhead!

Have you thought about making a jaunt over to Teller County, around Cripple Creek and Victor? Plenty of old gold camps in that area but I am not sure of the legalities of detecting in the area.

p.s. I assume that by listing El Paso County, you are from the Colorado Springs area, correct? Have you ever been to the ANA Museum on Casacde Ave?

Yes I'm from colorado springs and I have visited the money museum many times. Also I shall find out if metal detecting is legal there.
