I decided to start a 7070 type set, but don't have a lot of money for collecting right now (and much of that goes to world coins). I didn't want to start a middling set that I'd upgrade later, so I decided to do a heavily worn "lowball" set, and add a separate high grade set at some later date. I like some wear on my coins anyway - makes 'em seem more real to me. I went to a big flea market at the state fairgrounds today and bought my first coins for the set! After picking up a few foreign coins at the actual coin dealers' tables, I noticed a table with a few coins. Most were mixed together in a big box labelled "culls" *Ding-Ding-Ding* just what I'm looking for! Many were holed or otherwise damaged, but I found 7 coins for my set, for just $1 each.

All four large cent types! I was especially surprised to see the draped bust coin. The last one has old tape residue on the reverse. I'm hoping it will come off, but really I can't be too picky at this price. The classic head cent even has a readable date - well, just the last digit actually, but that's all you need to know it's 1810.

That's a classic head Half Cent and a Two Cent Piece. The 2c has an oddly slick and glossy finish - like it was lacquered - by why do that to such a low grade coin?

And finally a Flying Eagle cent. The date is quite clear - 1858. I'm not sure whether I'll actually use this coin in the set. It's not really that worn, but has an odd, chalky red surface. But for the price I just couldn't leave it behind.

I know I won't get prices this good on most of the set, but boy was it a great way to start off.

Looking good Ziggy.

I'm a big fan of honestly circulated coins ... they seem to have stories to tell.

Looking forward to seeing any new additions.

Wow. A draped bust in any condition for 1.00 is a steal. Way to go!

I do have an actual 7070. The only problem with it, which didn't occur to me until I put my first coins in, is that some of these really worn coins are a bit smaller, from having metal worn off the edge, and slide around a bit. Accepting that they won't all be nice and upright all the time will be a bit of a struggle

I actually don't have the last page done - these were literally the first coins I put in the album. I'm keeping an eye out for heavily circulated examples of those coins, just to better match the other coins in the album. Thankfully my 7070 is a bit out of date, and ends with the SBA dollar. Finding a well circulated SBA will be hard enough, but I don't think I'd ever find a worn silver eagle, or modern commemorative.

On these classic coins the size differed between different dates so all 7070 albums even with UNC. coins will be to big in some spots. What I did was get a mylar 2x2 and cut thin shims out of it and placed them around the coin to make them fit tight where they do not move around or fall out and then just put the slides back ion and they all fir fine and you can't even see the shims going around the coins

Congrats on some great pickups for only $1. I've been considering a 7070 for a while but it's obviously quite an investment so I kind of like your lowball idea.
