I was just offered 35 cents a gram, which by my math works out to 6.5x face value for Canadian silver coins on the phone.
That is outrageous.
Save the trip and avoid these "pros"

I guess to pay for their full page ads and travelling expenses they need someone to ante up. But should it be their customers? And we all know who they are.

Those people, they really aren't giving anything. They are not there for profit, but for extremely huge profits. If you really want to sell, kitco.com is giving today 15.78$ per dollar. But you have to be in Montreal for that or you can send them, you will have all the information on their website. When I was near Victoria BC, there is a coin dealer that gives you a fair price, VanIsle coin on Fort Street. For myself I believe that it is not the right time to sell any precious metal, the prices are really undervalued if you look at the fundamentals driving that market.

I called out of curiosity. I am in no way desperate to sell anything.
Any beat up worn out silver I get rid of is to a coin shop when I am getting something I need and always get fair prices on what I bring in, and good deals on what I want.
The weekend hotel "shows" are like you say getting extreme profits from unsuspecting sellers.
Rest in Peace

So how many of the complainers have gone into competition? That's the obvious solution.
