I am sitting here playing with my new DiGiWeigh Model DW-1000BX pocket scale. Looks like a great scale for $15.00 shipped. Right now I have a new Puerto Rico State Quarter on it that according to my RedBook weighs 5.67 grams. The scale is reading 5.7 grams. This is my first scale so are the numbers close enough to each other to call it good? I read about calibrating it but I will have to buy a gram weight. Any thoughts on this? Thanks,
Rest in Peace

A new US nickel is 5.0g. If the scale only weighs to 0.1g, 5.7 is the closest it can register a 5.67g item.

The numbers are close enough to good. Frankly, if it were me I'd have gone with the DW-100 model, which only weighs to 100g instead of the 1000g of the DW-1000, but has a resolution of 0.01g. If you can afford coins that weigh over 100g, a cheap scale isn't among your worries.

Just checked the weight of a new nickel and it reads 5.0, so it must be pretty close.

I see what your saying SuperDave, one of the reasons I picked this one is my wife has some silver medallions that we wanted to weigh. I knew they were heavy and when we weighed them this morning they came out at 7.37 and the other one was 7.74 ounces, .999 silver.

Here are some pics of them...

OK, you got me.

I would be comfortable with the scale you purchased.

Weighing coins can get a bit scarry since there are tolerances in their weights. Also, many scales tend to change over time for accuracy. Also, some are sensitive to exact balance. All I'm saying is as long as you have one, might be fun for a while. I've got several of them and so far it's been years since I've used one.
I have been thinking about trying one for those so called 1/4 pounder so many places claim for a cheeseburger.
