I'm hopeful that someone can check their current Charlton Standard Catalogue and help me resolve a couple of mintage figure discrepancies that I found in my copy of the Catalogue; the latest version I have is a 2008 (62nd Edition).

Here we go:

- In the "One Dollar -- Collector Coins" section of the catalogue, the 2002 (1952-) Accession Anniversary commemorative dollar (gold-plated) has a listed mintage of 65,315. However, in the "Collector Sets" section, the Special Edition Proof Set containing the gold-plated dollar has a listed mintage of 33,490. As the SE Proof Set was the only way to obtain the gold-plated dollar, the numbers should match but don't. I checked the mintage of the standard 2002 Proof Set (i.e., the set without the gold-plated dollar) and found that it is listed at 65,315. So, it appears likely that the listed mintage for the gold-plated dollar in the "One Dollar" coin section is an error and lists the mintage for the wrong coin. Can anyone confirm? Have the numbers been updated in the latest Catalogue?

- Similarly, the 2003 (1953-) Coronation Anniversary commemorative dollar has a listed mintage of 21,400 in the "One Dollar" section. In the "Collector Sets" section, however, the mintage is listed 21,537. As the dual-dated dollar was only available in the SE Proof Set, the numbers should match. The discrepancy is small, but I'm wondering which is correct. Have the numbers been updated in the latest Catalogue?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I believe the 2002 com. dollar are as follows;
proof silver-29,688
gold plated proof-65,315
brilliant unc.-65,410

Double date 1953-2003;
proof silver-21,537

It is a bit of a twist because they made more than just one kind.

My catalog isn't current - but it is teh First Edition 2010.

This one shows the same as what you show for the 2002 in both places. It appears they haven't fixed this error as of 2010.

For the 2003 the mintage shows as 21,537 in both the single dollars and the special edition proof sets section.

Thanks for the responses.

Just remembered that the RCM has a decade's worth of Annual Reports posted on their website. I downloaded and reviewed the pertinent reports and found the following "official" mintages for the coins I was interested in -- almost none of them match what's in my 2008 Charlton Standard Catalogue!

Here are the mintages I found in the RCM Reports vs. Charlton:

2002 Accession Golden Jubilee
- Proof: 119,233 [Charlton Standard Catalogue: 29,688]
- Proof, Gold-Plated: 32,642 (issued only in SE Proof Set) [CSC: 65,315 in ‘Dollar' section; 33,490 in ‘Collector Sets' section]
- Standard Proof Set w/ Accession Dollar: 65,461 [CSC: 65,315 + 500 ANA Sets]
- Brilliant: 63,582 [CSC: 65,410]

2003 Coronation Golden Jubilee
- Proof, Single-Date (2003): 29,688 [Charlton Standard Catalogue: 29,586]
- Proof, Dual-Date (1953-2003): 21,537 (issued only in SE Proof Set) [CSC: 21,400 in ‘Dollar' section; 21,537 in ‘Collector Sets' section]
- Brilliant: No BU Coronation Dollar issued

The discrepancies across the board are hard to ignore and make me wonder how many other discrepancies exist between the RCM reports and the CSC.

I have a question regarding mintages in the Charlton Collector Issue Catalogue. I have noticed in a lot of the "Derivatives" lists (i.e. stamp and coin sets, coins in credit card holder, etc.), there are often items that have N/A in the mintage and issue price columns but have a value in the Market Value column. Often times I have tried to locate these derivatives and have not been able to find one example either on ebay or dealer sites.

Does the N/A mean "not available" in the sense that the amounts are unavailable or that the actual coin in that case or set is not available? I would have thought it was my first assumption since they list a market value, but I am wondering whether or not the product was ever actually produced?

I'm reasonably certain that the "N/A" refers to the fact that the mintage figures and/or original selling price are not available vs. the derivative itself not being available/produced.

In the commem dollar series, I have the 1997 Canada/Russia Hockey Dollar derivatives, the 1998 RCMP Coin and Pin set and the 1999 Juan Perez Journal set (I also have a Perez Coin and Pin set that is not listed). All of these show "N/A" for the Mintage.

If the RCM doesn't post the derivative mintage details in its Annual Report (which they often don't), it appears Charlton lists them as "N/A".

Keep searching 'canuck1us', they do appear from time to time on ebay. Good luck!
