Hi,

I recently acquired an 1949 1 cent, that has a extremely small dent on the obverse on the rim (around the 2 o' clock position), and the coin is extremely shiny. I have a feeling this coin may have been dipped, but I am unsure. How does the rim damage and possible dip affect the coins value? Also, how can I determine if the coin has been dipped?

Thanks.

If the coin appears to have an unnatural shine, chances are it was dipped, and as for the rim dent, few collectors like problem coins, especially when they are common dates.
If it is a circulated coin, the value will be under $1.00 for an "A" between denticles and somewhat more for it's scarcer sister counterpart.
