So I'm seriously considering joining the ANA, but I'm not sure it's worth it. I have a decent number of high grade raw coins that I would like to submit to NGC and I know you get direct submission privileges with membership. What other benefits make it worth the "price of admission"?

Not that the ANA isn't a good organization, but if you just want to submit coins to NGC, you could just join NGC.

$46.00 membership dues to be able to submit directly to NGC
-or-
$39.00 (associate) membership for direct submittal to NGC
-or-
$125.00 (premium) membership for 5 free submittals to NGC
I would lean toward the Premium membership for the submittals which would pay for itself.

If you are not interested in the print version of the Numismatist magazine then you could join with the basic membership for $28 and have the Numistmatist emailed to you digitally still getting all of the other benefits including NGC.

If I were an American collector, I would join just to read the Numistmatist' I have a few old print copies, and I appreciate the standard of the articles therein.

I'm a life member and enjoy all the ANA offers. I have not attended any of the courses but will get int the summer sessions as I free up some time. My favorite time of day is spent on the beach reading the Numismatist. Just something about the sun, surf, beach and coins that is so relaxing.

Joining anything for education purposes alone is usually worth the small cost. However, if your really hurting for money, joining anything now is not a smart thing to do. Being able to read the latest info about coins or whatever your interested in too, could be fun and informative. Getting mail noted as for coins in an area where people can see what is in your mail box could be a problem too. Joining this one just to send in a few coins for grading too is sort of a waste of money unless you plan on sending in coins continuously. You could just not send in those coins for grading, not join any organization, send me all that excess money you now have saved.

The benefit that sold me was their library access. Books are expensive to buy and I have no local means to rent or borrow. ANA has a fairly deep library selection and beyond the ANA membership cost you only pay for shipping. If you're like me and live to learn it's a pretty valuable benefit.

the ANA has so many more benefits besides submission privileges to NGC I believe it is worth the membership fee for those alone, not to mention all the things they do to further the hobby for the next generation. Just ask AdamE how valuable their services are as he was one of the YN that got a scholarship from them to attend their School of Numismatics to learn all about coins and coin grading
