This comes from an uncleaned lot that I've been working on. It's not in the best of condition, but these coins don't show up very often. Coin is better in hand and most of the legend is visible, enough to ID the coin as: FL DALMATIVS NOB C / GLORIA EXERCITVS / SMTSB. RIC Thessalonica 227. It is rated at R5, but in this condition it's probably only worth a few dollars.

Very good find. Congrats. You are right when you say they are hard to come by, especially in an uncleaned lot. Is there any patina left or did you have to remove it all to be able to attribute it? It fills a slot, right? Again, CONGRATS

There is still some dark green patina left.

From the photo I'll not swear if it is DAL or DEL. The style does not really look like my 227 but mine is the relatively common (R3) E.

It is a question we all have to ask: How bad is too bad?

Actually I have a Delmatius worse than yours in my cleaning survivors which I am unable to sell because I am unwilling to accept PayPal and more than one potential buyer has no checking account. We seem to be in a generation gap here. Coins worth less than postage and fees will always be a problem.

Doug, I took a closer look with the microscope and It looks you you are correct. It does seem to be E, which would make VII Thessalonica 228 and rated as R4. Thanks for pointing that out.
