Magician coin. The dime was hollowed out on the obverse and the cent was machined down including the rim.Looks like the cent was laid or glued into the dime.It surly didn't come from the mint this way. PMD

yep, that's what I was afraid of when you mentioned this earlier. You can clearly see that two coins have been placed together in that edge view of the coin. Definitely what they call a Magicians coin

It might not be special, but it is still a fun find. Definitely keep it.

I think the4se probably sell for a couple bucks in magician shops (I have heard) so you didn't lose anything in the deal (except the time it took to pick it up) and you have a contact helping you look, so in my opinion you are doing well. I know a few members on this site that have some magicians coins they have found and they always keep them just because they thought they were cool, and I have to agree there is something cool about them, especially one made with a small coin like the one you have as most were half dollar sized or larger

I hope you didn't drive 200 miles just to purchase a garage job

That's too bad you just got a fake coin, but still great you have a teller looking out for you. That is the best you can do at any bank, since there will be more and better finds in the future.

Do they use super glue to keep them together? It would have to be a very thin and strong layer of glue to hold them that tight together.
