Hi!

I'm looking for a way to store some Silver Maple Leaf coins. I don't know yet if I want to put some in capsules or in slabs.

What do you recommend?

A friend of mine plan to buy this but I'm not sure about the foam inside it. Is it safe?

Thanks for the help! Any recommendations are welcome!

I have been thinking about the same thing and looking at some round and square caps from colonial acres:

Not sure about the quality but it does say the black inserts are chemically inert and free of PVC, etc. I was so close to order them. But then I decided to hit a coin show coming in town next weekend. Hopefully there will be some good stuff.

I use these as they will fit in 2 x 2 binder pages. You can get them from http://www.boscastlesupplies.com/se...e-2x2/Detail

I am sort of in the same debate. I have seen the square capsules in person at Colonial Acres a few weeks ago, but I wasn't as impressed with how they looked. They actually looked sort of cheap. I have to say round capsules look much better.

However, in terms of longterm storage, square capsules are much easier to manage, at least I think so. The Quadrum Square capsules can be displayed individually, in 2x2 trays, they can even snap into a special binder sheet.

I find that the square capsules also start to look better when they are displayed in a 2x2 tray, as opposed to being displayed individually.

Right now, I am still using round capsules as I havn't invested in a proper coin storage system yet. But once my collection gets large enough, I might decide to use a square capsule system. I am just not going to invest in a system until I make that decision.

The Shopping Channel has some nice examples:

I am a fan of airtites, and order them directly from airtites dot com.
My favorite Maple setup is the (38mm) capsule with the black ring.

Dizzying! Very nice set up but I would hesitate myself to invest into storage of bullion coins to this extent.

I like the Air-Tite capsules as well. They offer nice protection from environmental issues and feel very solid (and round!) when examining each coin. My various SMLs are kept in them -- annual bullion issues, privy-marked issues, colorized issues, etc. They also fit nicely into standard 2x2 trays enabling viewing of 20+ coins at a time.

When you buy them in quantity, they can be purchased for less than $1 a piece -- a very reasonable investment to protect the coins in one's collection (bullion or otherwise). IMHO

I've tried both lighthouse and air-tite, air-tite is much better, it's crystal clear, scratch-resistent, fits perfectly and it has surface like those panda coin capsule so it refect light better than plain surface

I have always used the air tight capsules. I have read in other posts..actually one in the last few days that the foam in some of the square capsules (CAN not will) eventually cause black spots on the coins. Especially silver maples since they tend to be suseptable to black and milk spots. Hearsay...but it's what I know. I havent had a problem with any coin thus far ( knock on wood ) with anything going wrong with my maples. I just like the exact fit of the round air tights. I like that it is just my coin and next to no air inside....nothing else! CHEERS!

I also use Airtites to store my SMLs, but my question is now what to store/display the Airtited SMLs in? I see 1cent has some kind of tray (along with a lot more SMLs than I have ), what do the rest of you do to store or display them? Right now, mine are loose in a drawer, but I've been thinking lately about some better way to store and display them.

air-tites.com has tubes for storage:

the display albums, boxes or trays they have aren't so economical.

I use the square lighthouse holders and buy binder pages that hold them this way I can see both sides and show them to people very easily. Not sure about the black foam other than they claim it is safe

Nice Collection Parkay, I am envious.

I am leaning towards a storage system like that.

@parkay: RCM's original square capsule is thicker than lighthouse's, did you replace them all?
