I just received my first hobo nickels today. They look better in hand than this scan shows. Would love to see which ones you have.

Those are nice, Speck! I wish mine were on Buffalo nickels. I could not get one at a reasonable price, but I will keep trying. I was lucky that I got these 2 last week. Keep the pics coming! I love all the designs. It is amazing the talent these people have to be able to hand carve these.

I have a few on ebay right now. Mine usually go for $12-$20. This is the only one I own that someone else made:

I love that one!
So, do you mean to tell me that YOU do carving? The 2 earlier posts by you were done by you?

yep. Those earlier posts and all the ones at http://ideasite.net/hobos/ and on my ebay account are carved by me. I started signing them with the "DAV" stamp on the back that you see on the top coin. I get common date buffaloes for 50 cents each and it takes 1-2 hours each to carve.

Those are very, very good! Have you tried to do a skull? I would love to have one of those, but the price is too high for me so I stop bidding.

Chris........ if you go to YOU TUBE, you can see how they do it. Some do it with tools, other carve with hand tools. It is amazing! Some are so elaborate, it will blow your mind. Check out all the artwork on ebay too. Just do a search on either site for "hobo nickels".

way ahead of ya Cajun :D. Already looked on ebay. Then I went out to my car in just shorts (its 30 degrees) got my tool box, came inside and I am now carving a nickle into a spaceship on one side and a alien on the other lol. There is a incredible Buffalo nickle on ebay right now where the head is a skull and the buffalo is a skelly buffalo. its really good.

I saw that skull coin on ebay too.......... I bid on it, but it will go for more than I can pay. Show a pic of your handy work when you are done. I definitely want to see it. I may buy it from you if the price is right.........and of course, you know what you are doing! LOL
