I think the pliers will be the way to go.
The chisel and hammer could get the nice coins covered in blood
The mint sets are so much easier all I needed was a box cutter

like I said, a LOT of care ;-)
and in doing so, I get about 1 in 4 that I can put back together to be hardly noticeable.

hot knife and cut around the seam, is the way I think I would if I do, but I wont
