I think I payed to much, but oh well. What do you think was a fair price for this. It has no creases at all in it, I would think it would be AU, but again I am a horrible grader. One corner has a slight old crinkle in it that can be seen. (about 1/16") Edited by Americanamafia 03/02/2012 9:50 pm

Very nice piece. The top right corner is quite rounded, top left one a little rounded too from what I can tell. Did you check the bill in a strong light at an angle ? I'm not sure about it being AU, because of that pretty rounded corner and the other minor flaws. Maybe it's a high grade XF. Also, did you make sure it is a real note ? I have read that copies of some confederate notes were found in cereal boxes back in the days. I don't think yours is one since the serial doesn't match the one of any of the copies on this website: http://www.rebelstatescurrency.com/...uctions.htmlIt wouldn't be a bad idea double check to make sure it's the original by doing a bit of research, if that hasn't been done already of course.

Yes, that top right corner is the only notice of wear. Its not rounded but it isn't prefectly flat. I checked the serial # and it came out (after I bought it of course ). I bought it from a reputable dealer locally so I wasnt too worried about it. That in combination with the paper type made me spring on it. What do they usually run in XF and AU?

My bad, I couldn't see the picture well, I thought one of the corner was quite worn. Well, then I'd say this is AU. I don't know about the current market values but according to the 12th edition of the 1368-1960 Standard catalog, P-68 is listed at VF 30.00 UNC 55.00

If you always buy something you are going to enjoy, there is no price that is considered over paying. you can get allot more enjoyment out of an item that you could have spending that amount on something else. If you are not planning on flipping an item it really doesn't matter if you over paid a little in my opinion

I agree you did fine. It looks like a nice note. These are sooo hard from pics the feel of the paper is probably the best indicator of genuiness (is that a word?)IMO.

Nice one ... But, was it cropped a little at upper margin, or it's just my usual suspicions?! Cheers

Well, I think the 45 you spent on it is well worth it. Any civil war era notes in that grade is a keeper even though it's a relatively common one.
