Hi !

It make a long time that I'm not come here :) My interrest for my hobby change often and like I have a lot sometime it's coin's, sometime stamps, sometime miniature trains etc... lol

Here is my question, I read here that storage for coin in album is not the better solution and that I must change the album after few year because it can endemmage the coin for some reason....

What is the best way to store coin ?

Does "capsules" are a good choice ?

Sorry for my english again !

Thanks !

I use capsules for loose coins. You can then get nice safe storage display boxes to display them in or just pout them in a container. They storage boxes aren't a space saver but the coins are displayed nicely.

I know some of the old albums could tone your coins. I know some of them alsu used PVC based plastic protective sheets that can damage your coins. I'm not sure when the industry caught on and started producing albums that were safe.

Never apoligise for poor English or American. With 2 degrees in college, I've found that the smartest, best way to spell is to hire a secretary. They all seam to know how to do that.
As to storage of coins in an Album. Nothing wrong with that all all. The main thing about protecting coins is not allowing them to be in an area where the invironment can get to them. I have possibly 50% or more of my coins in Albums. All Albums are in Zip Lock Plastic Bag with as much air pushed out as possible. No problems with toning, tarnishing or anything else.
Regardless of what type of Album you use, I can not see any problem if no air can get to the coins.
Of course I primarily use Whitman Albums though and almost everyone on this forum is a Dansco person.
One important thing about storing coins though. The more you do to protect them, the less you get a chance to see them.

Hi !

Thanks for all the answer :)

Like I'm from Canada and I collect about only Canada album from Whitman and Dansco are not commun here. I think that it have only unisafe.

Like a remember the fact about PVC and "plastic" album I have the idea to build myself a storage to use capsule or something like that. I will look a lot better and if it can be more safe it will be a another adventage. Of course that it's a long term project...

Any other comments are welcome too :)

Thanks again !

You can purchase a number of different types and/or brands of Albums from on line dealers. One that is mentioned a lot here is Wizard. I purhcased some items from them in the past and really decent prices.

Albums are great, dansco has an amazing reputation and they have slip covers as well to go over the album. Rolls and tubes are available depending on what you are collecting. If it is just a small assortment of things, you can't go wrong with paper 2x2's in a box. If you a bit of corrosion resistance intercept shield has a 2x2 storage box as well as other sizes

i really like to use 2x2 coin holders. I would highly suggest using a flat clinch stapler though. if you use a regular stapler, the 2x2's do not store as well because they take up more room and can tear album sheets.

Like just carl with his Whitman albums, I have used Dansco albums for a long time (27+ years) and have had no problems

However, you mentioned Uni-safe. I believe they are similar to our old Harco albums (plastic pages). A long time ago, Harco had a problem with their vinyl pages (PVC) causing damage. I would be suspicious of older Uni-safe albums for the same reason, but I would expect their newer albums to be okay.

It would be a good idea to get confirmation from other members.
