i would love to get 1K oz of silver but I am going more on the numi side and working on a BV set of merc dimes missing 6 on my first set and a whole bunch on my second set I have 2 sets of roosie silvers and and 1/2 complete on a set of franklins and many modern commem dollars in UNC right now I am close to 50 ozs and by the end of this year I would like to have over 100 but that all depends on the price of silver because I am a weekly buyer to DCA and I only spend under $30 a week well maybe $35 depending on the coin

You got it, Traevin. When my recent 90% silver coin buy arrives I will also be just over 900 oz. Whichever of us makes it to 1000 oz. first probably doesn't matter a while lot. As long as we have a good stack, that's all that really counts. If gold will cooperate and drop a little more, I might have to take some time off from the silver stack and start on the gold stack.

Silverbug, When I get my next couple of purchased ebay orders I'll be right around 915 oz. That's a cool idea, though. The 1000 oz. club! I bet we have members on here who probably belong to the 10,000 oz. club; but yeah, I'm going to be one proud soul when I cross that 1000k threshold. Can't say when it will be, though. If I make it before the Mayans Gods wipe us out in December, maybe I can bribe them and save my silver-encrusted bacon BTW, I just picked up your dragon effigy this week on ebay. It went for $91 and I really appreciate its intrinsic, almost mesmerizing, beauty. It's my first scalloped coin but won't be my last. The RCM has mastered the craft of sculpting artistic, iconic silver. I'd say Perth might be their main competition in the commemorative coin-making arena.

Ed,
You know your gameplan better than I do but all the silverbugs (not you, Silverbug) claim AG is WAY undervalued and should gain on gold in the long run. I was considering doing the same thing you're contemplating, since I have a terribly puny amount of gold in my collection; but after reading article after article on the silver/gold historic ratio I decided to stick with the sterling... for now.

I can't find a thing wrong with your approach, Traevin. It's a personal choice that we all make and it has to fit our personal situation. Because of this, it is up to each of us as collectors to determine what is right for us. While I have been tempted to buy gold several times over the past year, the time never quite seemed right. I agree that silver always seems to be a better buy but maybe that is due to its much lower price than gold. I have invested some money in a platinum ETF that has done OK so far. That's not the same as buying and holding physical metal but it is in a Roth IRA, so pretty much has to be invested in the things that are acceptable in that program. There are physical metals IRAs out there but none of them gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling of confidence that I would need to buy into them. Where gold and platinum really shine is when we want to convert a large amount of fiat paper into a portable amount of PMs. Imagine hauling around $100k worth of silver, for example... 2857 ASEs @ $35 each. That amount in gold would be about 57 1-oz. AGEs @ $1750 each and would fit in a cigar box with quite a bit of room left over. This could be very handy if one were making a hasty exit, for example. Still, I do like silver... a lot.

I've only got about 16 and a half ounces of silver and 1/25 oz of gold so my goal is get to 100 oz of silver from countries around the world. Some of you guys sound like you have extremely impressive collections.

Quote: Some of you guys sound like you have extremely impressive collections. Yes, some of these collections are pretty impressive. Of course, some of us have either been at this for a while or we have money that we've saved over many years and are now converting it into something that seems to us to be more permanent and less susceptible to the ravages of inflation and other fiat money problems.
