I say negotiate with Rarecoin, I know that for a lot of their stuff they have some buy back guarantee. I'm not exactly sure how it works. I've been getting catalogues for years so maybe they build their advertising/marketing into the sales price. They have some stunning stuff but a huge portion of it is out of my everyday pricing.

What notes you looking at? I'm a keen note lover.

What is the coin you are looking for ?

There is a 1959 Melbourne Gem Penny on there. The obverse shows detail mostly seen in proof coins (the price is almost that of a proof!) with some beautiful wood grain style lines through the planchet. The most affordable(?) of the key dates, but still quite common. With a strike that good, i'd be interested in knowing what it would slab at.

First / Last prefix mostly. Just trying to make up a 2008 set (will be the only set I have after it is done lol) but i'll probably buy some more from the reserve bank when they release them later this year.

rbarat Is that the $800 one ,yes very nice coin but big money , great strike on the obverse , it does has some marks , I did noticed a ms64rb sold for $270 just recently and a dealer had a ms65rb for around the $550 mark.
I am not a penny collector of sorts I do like proof pennies , so for me to grade would be a crime lol ,but if I was to have a guess ms64 rb .

Can I post this link to the coin , I will remove if it's against the rules; https://www.rarecoin.com.au/product/9918

Oh well, i'll save up for it (maybe a year lol) and I might make an offer on it.
I did notice the marks. It would be awesome if more photos were this good where you know exactly what you're forking out for.
I did find this link which helps work out how an MS grade is given.

As there a small amount of marks on the coin which impacts the surface preservation, I would agree it would be a high range MS64 at least.

I saw Pacific Rim Coins had the MS65 but they no longer have anything on their site.

I agree with an earlier statement that catlogues are purely a guide....but everything surcomes to the law of supply and demand
Take the $1 silver kangaroos and in particular the 2007...seems many are prepared to pay above catag for it. Most coins though are on the other end of the spectrum where collectors can pick up far less than catalog price eg 1992 silver space coin

Got all I'm after (for now)
Haven't got $50's or $100s (i know the $50 is quite a very low mintage)
I might possibly grab the AA/MD08 $50's at a later time, but they appear to be a bit easier to obtain than the $10's and $20's

Rbarat, ok where these notes stand are;
$10 AA08 & DF08 had 654,499 of each printed
$20 AA08, JC08 & $50 AA08 had 999,999 of each printed
$50 MD08 had a mere 49,999 printed making it the 2nd most scarce polymer prefix printed. The one thing to remember is that every note would have been purchased by dealers or collectors, so they'd all be in UNC condition.

When I'm back in Melbourne I'll let you know if I have any spares that I can part with, if you're interested.

I've got my fingers crossed everyone skipped buying 5's , 10's and 20's in any volume to buy more MD08's

Was it the 2009 Rennicks which listed the Mary Mackillop $1 for $13 still; though on ebay it was going for $70+ (its calmed down to around 50ish now I've noticed). I guess the book value was misprint? - I don't know, but it was one instance I paid more than bookprice ;)

(They also printed total mintage as 4000-something - which may have contributed to price rush on ebay, maybe).
