Anyone know how they do it? What setup do they have?

Drsandman2 Posted 03/13/2012 6:38 pm: "I have all the answers. A few weeks ago, I was introduced to a Heritage employee. When I told them I was a coin collector and I loved their images, they said, "Thank god I don't do coins anymore." They use to shoot the coins. So I contacted them.

They were given permission to give me details on their setup, but I don't feel comfortable posting that information here. I'm willing to share what I've learned with Pillars of the Community who have been active in the photography forums. Contact me directly."

If you already knew the answer, then why did you open the thread with the question? (rhetorical question)

CCF is a forum where folks SHARE information, not goad members with baited questions, and then hold back with answers.

You averring you know a process, and then choosing not to share, is akin to someone posting a numismatic article yet not citing sources. It's hearsay, silly, and nothing more.

Well gee, this has been fun. I get the impression that Drsandman2 is heavily influenced by post counts on this site only, and he is judging participants on their post count. How many members here would have many thousands of posts if we consolidated all our coin site posts?

CC's analysis of the issues at play here is quite succinct.
Rest in Peace

I would think whatever Hairytedge allowed an outsider to see, they would have to expect could find its way to the Interwebs, unless he signed a non-disclosure agreement.

I am sure Heritage uses nothing proprietary to them so I don't understand why there is any concern

In my opinion there are many ways to take a picture of a coin, the biggest differentiators been a cost of the set up. Even with expensive studio like set up (lenses, camera, lights) there will be different results for different people. I am all for sharing our experiences, and I am sure some of the Heritage folks have picked up bits and pieces from this forum.

Perhaps, Instead of saying "I know how they do it, but will tell a chosen few", a better way of approaching this would be asking your Heritage contact if you can share this information with this forum.

I think I've had enough of this thread. Drsandman2, you haven't done well by yourself in creating this mess.
