I've always liked Texas history and this note speaks volumes of it.





Henry Smith was the 1st provisional governor of Texas. He left Texas in 1849 with two of his sons who went to the gold fields of California to find their fortunes. They found no gold and Henry died in a mining camp in Los Angeles County in 1851. Later, attemps were made to recover his remains for return to Texas but to no avail. Years later at the unveiling of his portrait in the Texas State Capital one of the tributes given cited that "California stands vigil over his dust and Texas is the guardian of his fame."

Well, hello surprise ; another one

I like that Texas note, and I'm not from Texas.

Wish all my "shopping trips" were successful and had happy endings but once in a while the plan just doesn't come together. I thought I had found a banknote to match a check in my collection However, my finger just couldn't click the mouse to bid on the beautiful banknote. Just for fun when you ask why I'm so disappointed; do a little history search for Peirce City.

The check was QUITE inexpensive; however the budget could not justify the large $$$ for the note. Oh well.

Are currency collectors supposed to have a budget? I thought that was just for rent, food, car expense etc.
