anytime you see pits on a Trade dollar you have to take a closer look. This thing has pits all over it so it scares me more than a little. I don't see anything else that makes me think its fake but with these Trade dollars I would probably stay away from it just because of the pitting, especially when I think silver usually doesn't pit like that
Rest in Peace

Step one, get it slobbed, looks like a cast counterfoot to me.

I've had it for over to 40 years. It was given to me by my great grandma.

The dentils look really 'mushy' on the obverse between 5 o'clock and 8 o'clock.

As for having the coin 40+ years, that does not rule out the possibility of the coin being counterfeit.

For your own peace-of-mind, with getting it graded by a TPG. It will be worth the expense for the sentimental value alone, as well as protect the coin into the future.

I truly hope for your sake it is genuine.

Something about the look of the coin and the pitted surfaces is giving me pause.

almost immediately when these coins were released their were counterfeits of them being used. You having it for so long is good but it doesn't really authenticate the coin since some of the counterfeits of this type is just about as old as the originals. The thing that really scares me is the things I have already mentioned and that is you usually do not see pitting like that on a silver coin and anytime you see something you don't usually see, especially on a Trade dollar, it causes concern

Have you weighed it? I realize it still has a lot of sentimental value to you but I'd be very surprised if this is a genuine Trade dollar. Too many things don't look right IMO
