Hello all, new member here, I have been a casual collector for many years but have recently started to get more serious and buy some more valuable coins and sets. What is the best price guide to use since it seems that prices can be all over the place for similar coins of the same grade? Thanks
Stephen

There's more to a coin than the grade.

You can also get a grey sheet:

You could also get a copy of the Red Book, go to the PCGS web site for their price guide. I think Coin World too has a price guide.
And if you go to Google and type in Coin Price Guides, you'll see they have over 3,800,000 results of that. Of course many are not price guides but as already stated, all are just guides.
If you go to any coin show and/or a coin shop, you would see that in most instances a dealer uses the Grey Sheet for his prices. And even then, usually still a haggle system that lowers the price.

For immediate gratification, I like NumisMedia as well. Their mobile site formats nicely on just about any phone. The prices are retail, so it is a better guide for buying than it is for selling.

For deeper research, the completed sales on ebay are helpful.
