Had to stop and look at this little guy twice while roll hunting. Nothing special about the date or the coin, but probably the best specimen of its decade I've ever come across in circulation.

Used two different lighting sources to hopefully capture how nice it looks in hand.

Thoughts on grade?

Hello,

Does that D mint mark appear to be doubled or it that just an optical illusion produced from the angle of the light source?

Not an optical illusion.

I kept looking at it too to figure out what it was, and even with a 9x magnifier, best I came up with is that it's maybe a scratch in the copper with the zinc exposed.

I don't think it's doubling at all, then again I've never actually seen doubling in hand, so I can't say with 100% certainty.

Anyway, here's about as close as I can get with my camera:

It's not a DD it's split copper plating. Real nice condition though.

Looks like a nice strong strike also. Definitely north of MS-60 RED.
I would say MS-63 conservatively. I see zero wear but a bag mark (maybe) under Liberty (unless that is a die polishing line?)
If its die polishing, then MS-66 RED.

64/65 red

Not a D/D, just split plating, very common on this issue. Well worth saving, start-up a BU roll!

Nice cent! I am working memorial set and have found it fun and challenging to find ms 60 plus coins. They are not as common as some may think.

That's a beauty and a great find. It looks like it was removed from circulation the same day it was released.
