Lady calls with a couple of $1 gold pieces she wants to sell

I quote her a price, she shows up yesterday.

Two obvious fakes, high points were brown, one had a brown ponytail where someone scratched the surface.

She had a bunch of other coins: quarter, half and dollar Californias and a couple other tiny gold pieces, all fakes.

There were also about 15 tiny copper pieces from India and two gold ones. I mean the size of the O on the keyboard. All were in plastic flips in kraft envelopes that were falling apart. All had green slime from flip breakdown.

<sigh>

That stinks. Waste of your time and I'm sure very bad news to her. I'm guessing she was surprised, wasn't she?

I imagine she had no idea an was devastated to realize she had been taken to the cleaners, or did she just stumble on the mess of fakes, via nothing lost nothing gained, so no big deal?

I had a woman stop by on her lunch break, an I had to break it to her that bracelet with money $ signs was brass. Simply look in the links an you could see green color....

It was of course stamped 10K an was testing good for a bit, but the trick is I watch for at least 30 seconds an one should see zero change in the mark in that time as I figure you would agree. Plated we figured....

She did not seem to upset, so may just have found it in junk drawer or out in the world perhaps....
Rest in Peace

She would have been better off with a collection of gold plated State Quarters. At least she could have spent them. I really hate leaches that prey on naive people. should be legal to ..... Well never mind. My gun collection will stay locked up.

She inherited them, and was puzzled why he would have fakes, but didn't argue with my verdict. Small as they were, the Indian coins were, if not genuine, obviously solid gold. I offered $20 for the tiny coins, just to play around and clean up the green goop, but I guess sentimental value was higher. I did suggest acetone and throwing away the flips.
