Could I get help with an ID, approx. grade, and any further information on this Elagabalus Denarius? I am new to ancients and would love to know what to look for. I am mainly drawn to ancients because of their artistic appeal, but would love any tips on how to discover the long history behind the coins. Thanks much!

grading ancients is much different then other coins, a nice ancient is usually in VF condition. I dont really bother with the grading as long as the coin looks nice its a great find to me. Most of my coins wouldnt pass for another collectors collection. This is a nice coin and I like the portrait on it and its nicely centered. The legend is full so with that said you have a very nice coin there.

There are many books that you can read to get the feel of these coins. Ancient coin collecting series by Wayne G. Sales, Ancient greek and roman coins are some of the more affordable books with some info you might find useful and david sears books are full of info. There are many books out there Eric is also a good one.
