I search through sealed boxes of pennies, nickels, and dimes. and today I came across a penny that is completely blank on each sine and is extremely smooth. Is this a error coin? how much could it be worth?

You have an unstruck planchet, not to be confused with a blank(blanks do not have upturned milled rim), and it would be worth $3-5.

In contrast...what would a blank be worth?

Well, I am now very curious to get an answer too!

So glad I bought some penny cases off ebay!

I also have a scale which shows 2.4G when the blank is out of the case. There is no rim, but rather a margin around the rim. I should also note that this has a smaller diameter than a stamped penny and that causes it to rattle in the case.

Should I spend the money with NGC or just put it with my other die errors?

Is that the same as a blank check?
Maybe you're suppose to carve in your own denomination.

Cool.

Well, thanks to some of the informative discussions on these forums about NGC bulk grading offers, I have decided to send this blank in and see what happens with it.

I will also be sending in a batch of China Panda's I got off ebay last year as well.
