So I stopped by by local coin shop today, and found this coin below, the only other example I could find on ebay, and the one I was lucky enough to get at 89 bucks also slabbed by ANACS is graded VF-30. The one I have in my possession is much nicer then this example below, as the one I have is in amazing condition for being 229 years old, same grade or not....

My coin has all the exact same ANACS info down to only different serial numbers, and again in way noticeably better shape, with a nice slight pink tone around the reverse rim....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1783-EL-CAZ...em1e6c00d4dd

Here is an interesting copy an paste about the piece from this sellers auction above....

"GRADED BY ANACS VF - 30. PURCHASED BY FRANKLIN MINT IN 1994 FROM CAPTAIN JERRY MURPHY WHO FOUND THE WRECK IN 1993, 50 MILES SOUTH OF LOUISIANA. The Spanish ship El Cazador, brigatine of war, sank in the Gulf of Mexico, off the Coast of Louisiana in 1784. The ship was loaded with Spanish Colonial silver from Mexico. The treasure was silver coins from the Mexico City Mint. Most are newly minted and many dated 1783. The ship was bound for the port of NEW ORLEANS under the command of Captain - GABRIEL DE CAMPOS in January 11, 1784. The loss of EL CAZADOR changed the course of history. At that time Louisiana belonged to Spain. After the loss of this large shipment of silver coinage - Spain was forced to sell the Louisiana Territory to France. And then in 1803 Napoleon sold Louisiana to USA, 3 cents an acre or total of $15000000. The El Cazador was discovered by accident, by fishing boat "MISTAKE" under the Captain, Jerry Murphy, on August 2, 1993, while fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, with his vessel, The Mistake."

I also added a most rare beautifully toned 1982 Worlds fair commemorative coin, which I will work on getting a picture back in this thread asap....

I attended the Worlds fair in 1982 at the age of 8, as I of course was born in and have lived in an around Knoxville T.N. for my entire 38 years, so this piece has some significance to me for that fact. This is a one oz. silver piece, again fantastic toning an case, and here is the kicker he had it priced WRONG at $29.99, and let me have it for that anyhow, esp since I got the other coin. Essentially less then current spot price. I would have payed 30 alone, just for its toning if it had been non silver....

O.K., here is the 1982 Worlds Fair coin, with the sun sphere as the main visual of the fair of thirty years ago, something that is a staple to the view of the city today as you approach the downtown area. There is a bar/restaurant still to this day which is located up in the suns sphere....

Good call T, lol. They are still pretty upset about having to sell off Louisiana to France due to the fact they lost the very ship and treasure that this coin came from. France of course later turned around and sold Louisiana to the USA at 3 cents per acre.....

Hawk, Love the coin. I can't believe how well preserved it is. Believe it or not, I have modern, uncirculated coins in my collection that are in worse shape. Something about the PNW air around here, I guess.

What causes the Worlds Fair coin to take on those rainbow hues, anyway?

I am not sure T what caused that coin to tone in that fashion. He had it tucked away down low in a locked case, and this coin shop has much inventory, and some of it is cluttered in a center case with many coins in window flips, and lockable window glass cases in the middle with everything in them from old antique baseball bobble head figures, old paper currency, to a cool old pewter civil war chess board, to many slabbed coins, many varieties, like emperor Trajan something was one I liked in the old Roman coin section. He had some of the same more rare half oz. versions listed at 40 each of the worlds fair coins un-toned....

I could spend several hours with a smart phone in his shop researching ebay listings for similar coins, and often I would find I bet his pricing right along retail, while others marked real low like both these examples....

I found two more examples with a slight change in phrasing and found these at VF-25 and F-15....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shipwreck-C...em3f15854753

Or this F-15 example....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1783-Mo-FF-...em2c6439cb8e

I have to say I think I found a solid old coin, as the three examples I found on ebay are in no where as nice condition....

I have the same air here, T. Maybe it is more likely due to you using them as catapult ammo for your toy soldier set?
