As the Charlton Standard Catalogue doesn't include much information on the special packaging options (or "derivatives") for its commemorative silver dollar series, I'm presenting a few images of the sets I have in my collection to help those unfamiliar with the special sets to better understand what's out there so they can decide if they'd like to add them to their own collection.

Presented here is the 1998 Royal Canadian Mounted Police Commemorative Sterling Silver Dollar and Collector Pin Set. It was the second of three coin and pin sets issued by the RCM (I've previously covered the 1997 Canada-Russia Hockey Set and 1999 Juan Perez Voyages Set.)

As did the others, the RCMP set features a Brilliant Uncirculated silver dollar and a silver pin featuring the commemorative reverse design; both are sterling silver (0.925 fine). The images below should give you a good idea of the set's packaging and included historical information.

The set originally sold for $29.95 but no figures are available for the total number of sets sold.

Enjoy!

Nice! Thanks for sharing. Non-silver quarters are issued at that price nowadays.

Doing a bit of housekeeping...

The size potential of uploaded images has increased since I first posted these on CCF, so I thought I would re-post larger, more readable versions of the folder images.

Thanks for posting this. I love collecting these items with the somewhat different packaging. As we know there are many ways to have purchased the that dollar. Perhaps one of these days I'll add this version of packaging to my collection to go along with the single dollar in the clamshell and the proof set versions. I was able to pickup just this 1998 pin itself on a collector card. I'm not sure of the story on the pin card and why it has printed on the bottom "Not for resale"

@rjlavoie: Thanks for reminding me about the RCMP Pin Card. A bit over three years ago I posted about the one that I have in my collection and asked about its origins. I received one potential clue, but that's it. In case you're interested: http://goccf.com/t/325176.

The bottom of my card, including the "Not for Resale" message appears to have been trimmed off before it got to me!

Based on this new piece of information, the reply to my earlier post about it being wrapped with a set might indicate it was sold for a time wrapped up with the 1998 Proof Set.

Thanks for this post. As I noted earlier, that is probably my favourite of the silver dollars. Terrific image of the mounted NWMP. I have this dollar in all its packaging variations (as well as the NFS pin only package). I bought a second with the pin just to bust open the packaging so I could wear it on my lapel. Great conversation starter. Wish they'd done the pin+dollar in a proof version.
