for the past two days one individual on an auction site (not e-bay)has been outbidding everyone including myself. From gold and silver coins, to paper currency. I have been looking up what the range value would be on them. some of them in my opinion are to0 high on closing bid.I'm just flustered because I cant get an item.

Please give your skills a shot because I am just a newbie learning. so far, the bidding is up to $ 579.99 with 5 days left.

What year is this bill? I can't seem to see it. I'm trying to look it up in my currency book.

Briank, I went to the auction website and they say it is year "1902". also they say there are only 64 known currency like this. I wrote down the exact wording of what the tittle says.

" VERY RARE 1902 $5 National Currency Note- The Commercial National Bank of Columbus-Only 64 Known "

I really do apperciate your input.

Looks to me to be: (according to my book)

Third Charter Period
Third Issue
A.B.P. = 80.00
Good = 150.00
V. Fine = 325.00
Unc. = 1200.00

I can't find anything about it's rarity.

Thanks tornandfrayed75. From the look of the bill, what would you grade it to be ?

The grade is low but it is an uncommon note. My book only has it at $125 if I'm reading it right. 64 Large notes and 6 small known. I believe that is for all Commercial NB of Columbus notes.

It's just about impossible to grade a note like that from a photo, My Paper Money of the US book list it in Fine at
$ 125. but I think it has way to many folds to be a fine note.

But more important how does anyone know how many notes are known ?, are you saying that all that were printed have been found and accounted for ?. That also seems impossible.

Bill collector you have a great question, but I dont have an answer for that. I just think that some of these things that are posted for description are on the grey side. so I will let you know what site I am talking about and please give me feedback about it.

Google the word "Property room" this is the auction site. once you click that you will go to the home page. the area I am looking into is the " coin & bullion" section. this bill is on page 11 with 2 days and 23 hrs left with a new bid of $653.00.

I also forgot the registration is free but up to you if you even want to do that. there are 3 yellow tabs for the item you are looking at and one of them is a question you can ask them if you want it answered.

apperantly it is a police aution site. I just bumped into it by accident.

My experience is that these police and unclaimed property auctions get high bids for common items. Don't feel too bad if you are being outbid on these. if this is any example the other bidders are doing you a favor as they are paying way too much.
