My guess would be heat, I imagine the high speed presses would get pretty hot when striking the plated coinage...

I agree with SPP on this. Cannot think of what else would have caused it without additional damage.

motoryoda...I think you and SPP are probably correct, but weird how the problem comes from the middle of the coin and works it's way outward....No lines coming off queen's bust though...strange.
