I think the light is playing tricks on my eyes. It looks authentic but for soft-ish details, perhaps a weak strike, or perhaps just flat light. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...pe=1&theaterI'd like to recommend it on my site (in fact I have), but I just need a little back-up that it's real. The "IN" is weak, the detail in the hair appears weak and the one may be weak? Also, the "9" in the date appears pointed, but it might just be the poor scan. Thoughts? Thank you!

Apply the standard tests to begin with: a) comparison ring tone test, and b) weigh it.

Just a scan of the obverse is not enough as 1928 Peace dollar fakes can be tricky. Visit The Black Cabinet link in my signature and read the Counterfeit Detection page for a proper set of tests.

I make it a point NOT to buy from any seller not providing photos of both reverse and obverse.

Yeah... not sure what you guys are talking about. The reverse is up there...? ... Oh, I see! Sorry, I gave you the wrong link. My apologies. Yes, in the ebay link you can see the whole coin. Obviously, if you had the coin in hand it'd be easier to tell. But from the pictures, I can't see enough to verify that it's *not* authentic. I was hoping a Peace dollar collector would have a look and tell me if the things I'm concerned about are common on Peace dollars or if their a sign of possible counterfeits. The details look pretty sharp to be fake.

Well, I do collect Peace dollars and there is something about the position of her mouth and face profile that bothers me. Also, I can't tell if the wear pattern has worn away the leaf over the eagles talon or if it's missing. The coin should grade between VF30 and XF40, IMHO. It seems to be a really good strike for a low relief coin, but still, the face profile and eagle's perch bothers me. Also, I should add, I'm in FL right now and can not put a grid over the photo to really perform an in-depth comparison. One of these days, they'll have a decent App for an IPad to really perform comparisons.

. Something about that thing bothers me. Also, is that a foreign seller?

Thank you carmykle and The Silver Searcher. Good enough to know I'm not alone about something perhaps being afoot.
