I have been bitten by the currency bug, and I want to start a type set of US currency, starting with silver certificates (small size), then small gold certs, then move to some large sized notes. What book would you recommend I get first? I'd like something basic that a newbie could readily use.

Thanks !!!

The book that I love and works great is the "Standard Guide to Small-Size U.S. Paper Money 1928 to Date" 7 Edition

Start off with buying $1 Silver Certificates. You can get the 1957 and 1935 notes very easily. Then get a 1934 silver certificate with the funny back. Then get a 1928 silver certificate. Then a 1923 silver certificate. All can be bought for $20 or less in good circulated condition. But that 1899 Silver Certificate is going to cost like $100+ in VF+ condition.

The 1929 series notes can be fun. You can find banks that issued notes in your city or a city close by. Some are very expensive, but most are reasonable in price.

FRN notes, the ones you can still find in circulation, can be fun to collect. I have lots of them, and some can be quite valuable.
