I was just going through my low grade "cull" coin box and noticed these coins. Sometimes you have to hold them under the light at an angle to bring out the details also it changes the color and instead of looking dark they look red. Most of these coins dont look much more then a corroded round disc and most have an ugly blotchy color to them. Here are a few of mine that show corrosion, have an ugly color or are just plain ugly... If you have a few that dont fit most peoples standards post them here and let us hav a look at your coin.
CLAUDIUS II
A.D. 268-270 Æ Antoninianus. Rev. LAETITIA AVG, Laetitia standing left holding wreath and cornucopiae, I in field. 3.4gm 23mm

This coin still has some silvering that the picture doesn't bring out and there is corrosion on the middle reverse. LICINIUS I
A.D. 308-324 Æ Follis (23) Rev. IOVI CONSERVATORI AVGG NN, Jupiter standing left holding Victory and sceptre, eagle at feet. .TS.Ε. in exergue, mint of Thessalonica. 3.5gm 22mm RIC 60

This one smells l like a large copper and has the feel of a well circulated large cent. DOMITIAN
A.D. 81-96 Æ Dupondius. Rev. (FORTVNA) AVGVSTA S C, Fortuna standing left holding rudder and cornucopiae. 9.6gm 27mm

This is another badly corroded one and from what I can tell its a VALENTINIAN I
A.D. 364-375 Æ 3. Rev. GLORIA ROMANORVM, Valentinian advancing right dragging captive and holding labarum, wreath in left field and it almost looks like a FT in right but I havent researched this one yet so thats about all I can make out on this coin.

This was a metal detector find in the UK.Without the legend its dificult to tell much more but I think this would be MAGNENTIUS
A.D. 350-353 Æ Centenionalis. Obv. D N MAGNENTIUS P F AVG, Draped, cuirassed bust right. Rev. VICTORIAE DD NN AVG ET CAE, Two Victories holding wreath inscribed VOT V MVLT X

They really aren't all that bad. A young collector would probably enjoy them as his first ancient coins. I have several hundred really bad cull, just bits of metal and dirt just sitting in a bag that I hate to throw away.

Not really that bad, I not collect ancients and know little about them, but coins #2,3,4,5,and 7 look pretty decent (hard to call them culls).

The Domitian is the only coin that looks decent without holding it up to a light. The rest are too dark and you can only see the corrosion unless you hold them up to the light at an angle. I guess "cull" would be a little too harsh so I will call them lower grade.

Edit*spelling-my fingers are too fat for my phones touchscreen.

I like all of them--they still have nice details, all interesting pieces of history too.

=> I really like this coin of yours ... I like the fact that although it is quite worn, you can still read "DOMITIAN" on the obverse and you can still read the "SC" on the reverse ... to me, this is certainly a nice ol' coin (same goes for a few of your other examples)

... if those are your losers, then you must have some very nice coins!!

Nothing wrong with coins that have seen a bit of 'action', if they could talk their stories would be more interesting than the mint state survivors

I'll give these away to a good home, kind of like puppies I don't really want but don't have the heart to take to the pound.

I would be interested in the Jupiter reverse coin when it comes time for it to find a new home.

I think I found a match for my augustus. Instead of the Augustus IVLIA.TRAD. inside laurel wreath."Iulia Traducta mint (Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain, I did some googling on this one)" reverse. I found one almost exactly like mine but in better shape. So instead I think its this attribution instead.
Emperor: Augustus 26mm, as.
Obverse: PERM CAES AVG Bare head left
Reverse: COLONIA PATRICIA Within oak wreath
Mint & Date of Striking: Spain, Colonia Patricia Mint 27 BC - 14 AD
References: RPC 129

I get a kick out of your "bug-eye" Licinius (coin #4). Reminds me of a character from the classic "Robot Chicken" (lol)!

Haha yeah I have a few of those big eyed licinius coins. I buy as many of these as I can get my hands on. Not my favorite emperor but I like the jupiter reverse coins of this guy. They are my Indian Head cents of the ancient coins.

Are you talking about the IOVICONSERVATORI reverse with Jupiter, victory in hand and an eagle to the bottom left?

Basically all the jupiter reverses for licinius. I sort of started collecting these because of how many I already have and they are cheap so that was a good enough reason for me(plus they look good in any condition and I cant stop buying them) I know they are common but so are the IHC's that I collect. The two coins that I am starting to have a pile of is the FEL TEMP fallen horsmn and licinius jupiter reverse coins. Some day I want to have enough to be able to see a few varieties from the different mints represented on a several coins. I know its next to impossible to get them all so just a few would be good for me and these seem to be the coins that I can afford. I'm doing a few other projects too. Just to keep me busy in my spare time since I dont do anything fun now days.(but read and collect coins)
