This below is a higher grade example, and I have seen lesser slabbed versions of say then this AU 55 below from ICG, as I have seen it listed down around 125 on the a much lesser condition EF version, which is still a great coin for being from the mid to early 1800's.... Anybody collect or buy these? They often weigh just over 3 grams according to my understanding, which is unique metal mix of silver an gold. I am curious how much percentage of that pour is gold and how much is silver.... Anyhow with the price of gold right now 125 shipped seems like a decent price on a ANACS slabbed version.... Why slabbed, because SO many fakes from the east as we all know, an know doubt this bar gets faked often in large masses I figure, AGAIN ANY THOUGHTS? http://www.ebay.com/itm/33067996753....m1438.l2649Edited by Silverhawk74 04/11/2012 12:22 pm

Thanks IBgolden, I did note the non slabbed ones do go for less down around 65 each or so, but then there is the fake factor one must worry about, short of buying from a dealer with real trusted reputation....
Interesting to note that mix is 30/70 so not much gold there really....
Of course, not always about the metal content, as it is made of gold an silver at least, and think of the history and age of these pieces, not to mention the possibilities of who may have owned them, would make them a neat collectible that should no doubt climb in value as both gold an silver, if an when they ever take off again....

Yeah, I agree with all that ^^^... but, 'tis a rather expensive slab. You could buy raw from a reputable dealer and get it slabbed yourself... cheaper. And, 65 beans is on the very inexpensive side for raw... 85 being more typical. I got mine away back, for the reasons you've mentioned... the cool history angle!

You are WAY right IBgolden, as the best I found slabbed was like 126 slabbed, which is 61 bucks more, that is some HIGH dollar plastic....
Sixty five each from rep dealer is not bad at all for what you are getting I figure, as you said again....

Nice nice timing, I should just change it back, lol.... On a note of grading, ANACS I thought to check as the FEW others I saw were either them an one other was ICG, which leads me to believe perhaps NGC or PCGS does not grade these, could be wrong of course on that.... Anyhow, they will slab at 100 bucks per coin if one wants in walk through one day, or if you want to wait 15 days as most do I figure, it is only 20 bucks.... If you get five or more graded, it is only 14 each, and you can get as many graded of course as you want with a 500 dollar max value per coin the way I understand it.... http://www.anacs.com/contentPages/Services.aspx

I miss ANACS. Used to be able to stop by, get pre-grade opinions, drop off what you wanted to follow through on, and pick them up in a week.
