I get excited when I find things and have to show you guys first.... Tell me what you think... This has a round side with no edge and the other side has a flat wider edge.... the side with no edge is smooth with one raised bump on it... has anyone seen anything like this?

Counterfeit coin, produced at the "Montreal Mint". It is also very illegal to own or possess such an item. I am slowly compiling a database of the 2004 and 2005 counterfeit two dollar coins, by analyzing their cores and rims by XRF, and then the coins are turned over to the RCMP. If you want to donate your coin for this research, I'll replace it with a mint state real variety... contact me through the CCF personal message system.

Yup, a fake. I donated a 2004 and a 2005 to the RCMP collection 3 years ago. SPP I need a 2005 for my traveling collection.

The 2005 countfeits are less common, I have only analysed one so far, and I no longer have it.

Toasty - I think you should either contact me or nickelsguy, regarding that coin...

It's counterfeit for SURE. I got one like that a couple of months ago. Man, was I ever mad. I have a topic about it somewhere with pics and reasons why I think (KNOW) it's fake. I should let SPP-Ottawa know that I have absolutely no intention of passing it on. I keep it to show as many people as possible to educate them on its shoddy attempt to fool. I knew it was fake from a good distance away. The new toonies should be interesting, though, to see how counterfeiters will keep up, although it would be worth their time to just fake the older issues.

Interesting to see, I always double check 2004's and 2005's now.
