I'd like to start a thread talking about privy silver maple leaf coins. they are bullion maple leafs with small marks, cost a little bit more than normal SML because of limited mintage and better finish, they are more fun to collect and have better potencial.

all information from

Here is the first privy SML: 1998 90th Anniversary of the RCM, mintage 13,025

Love the privy coins. Thanks for posting them. I have five of them but plan to eventually buy them all.

Do you have the tank and battleship, also? And the Fabulous 12. Those are the only ones in my collection that you haven't posted here. I've tried to get the tulip over the years but was always outbid.

I've been collecting the Privy-marked SMLs since shortly after their launch -- they do make for an interesting little collection.

I remember the days when the 1998 RCMP Set in the box was the "hot" item of the series and then when the 2000 Hannover Expo took center stage as the key issue. The Hannover still commands a strong premium today, much more so than the RCMP issue.

My only disappointment in the series so far has been the lack of detail on the 2009 Ox privy mark. It was the final privy of the original Lunar Series, and it came up far short of the other 11. Definitely not the way to go out on top!

I look forward to continued discussions!

ox privy is the oddball. It was the year that RCM's heavy frosting made its way into the privy marked SML. I've owned both heavy revers frosted ox privy SML and satin/smooth frosted ones that match the 11 Chinese lunar series SML before it

I don't think the finish variations impacted the level of detail on the Ox privy mark - it's flat and hardly recognizable as an Ox on all of the coins I've seen.

I really like the privy coins, but that might be the laziest excuse for an ox ever :P If you guys weren't talking about it I would have no idea what that was.

Nice pictures though. Thanks Silverbug.

I'm kinda surprise the privy mark hasn't found it's way into the US NIFC coinage yet.

@commems: yes, the ox privy looks really odd in the series. I guess since f12 RCM got the idea that a privy was supposed to be something in a tiny circle, then they stick with it in the bridge, the gate and pisa, fortunately the newest titanic privy looks much better with a lot details.

BTW, most of the lunar privy image are taken from the $15 lunar set
