I bought these four as a set from a buyer in Germany. I assume they were a special small mintage European release. I don't have much information on these.

That's actually a pretty interesting possibility. It never occurred to me that someone just worked a little art on the surface of a regular SML. Could be.

I believe these are aftermarket SML enhancements vs. original Royal Canadian Mint ( RCM) products. There are several different types of these floating around -- I've seen some with potentially misleading advertising to get folks to think they are official RCM products.

Official RCM privy-marked SMLs are tracked in the Charlton Catalogue for Collector and Maple Leaf Issues, these are not listed.

Aftermarket colourization by a German mint. The same mint that did the precious stones privy SML series, Ribbon series for breast cancer, and gold gilding of regular SML.

Never been a big fan of the colored bullion rounds, but I never would have bought a toned numismatic coin or even considered it a year ago....

With that being said these coins are the exception as I think they have a natural look of the colors of the seasons....

I think the factor that has always made all Maples loved an highly sought after since their beginning is the VEIN PATTERNS within the leaf itself, as well as the frosted look of the high quality .999 silver. Simple design really but looks real natural an detailed, and that is why I think it is so sought after. Add the privy marks just another angle, as you have more options an things to buy an collect, all part of the system....

Thanks, Hawk. I like them. But they were pricier than they should have been, in hindsight. $37.50 might be a good price today but I bought these two years ago when silver was still in the high teens. They were sold as an RCM product, which I now know isn't the case. They are a rarity, though, and I believe I'd probably get my money back if I ever choose to part with them.
