From an old repair envelope for jewelry and watches:

Quote:
All repairs Guaranteed. If this job is not satisfactory return this envelope with Articles so that we can place the responsibility where it belongs. Not responsible for Articles left longer than 60 days.

IOW: We'll find someone to blame. Nothing about fixing the Article, just about fixing the blame.

So, all the jewelry / watch shop will do is take it back, take a look at it, and then return it with a pair of cheap glasses because OBVIOUSLY the purchaser is to blame.

Do I detect some slightly cynical and also slightly comical observations here?

I have been around some polytechnic colleges in Oz, and have played the game:
'Spot the Aussie!'

I am now retired, but I will endeavour to continue to formally educate myself for the rest of my life, simply because I strongly believe that you should never stop learning.

bigfredd,

I read this differently ... "so that we can place the responsibility where it belongs" ... on us. In other words (IOW): We stand behind all of our repairs and, if dissatisfied, the responsibility to make it right is ours without question.

"Spot the Aussie"? Huh? I believe he's speaking to the current reason we have a "customer service" department in companies now. It doesn't really fix the problem, it affixes blame and normally on the customer. I concur with his analysis. I've written CPS of several state's Attorneys General in the past year requesting investigations of certain companies "customer service" practices. Sadly, nothing really gets accomplished; The company gets their hands slapped and they go right back to their old business of non-customer service.
Rest in Peace

The purpose of the BBB is to calm the customer down and delay the business from actually having to fix things.
