How's that possible with a 38mm round that is thicker than an eagle
Doesn't make sense.

It is possible because the ring inside the airtite is 38mm, its the plastic case that measures 40 mm. Just the same way that nickels and quarters go in the same size capsule.

I think ArmsControl may be referring to the early Libertads (onzas) from 1982-1995, where the diameter was smaller at 36 mm and thickness of 4 mm rather than the current design from 1996-present where the diameter is 40 mm and thickness of 3 mm. The airtite that denco shows is a type I airtite with an outside diameter of roughly 51.5 mm. The black ring has an inner diameter of 40 mm. You could also put the older libertads in the same airtite, you would just need to have a 36 mm ring to put inside of it.

As far as a direct fit airtite, a type H 40.6 mm airtite works for the current Libertad, but I'm not aware of any 36 mm direct fit airtites for the older size. You may have to make due with a 38 mm airtite.
