I have a 2008 20th Anniversary gilded SML. I'm not aware of a 2009 gilded maple leaf. Any pics?

The RCM issued a gold-plated SML in 2008 to mark the 20th anniversary of the first SML and a 2010 Thunderbird SML coin for the Vancouver Olympics that had selective gold plating on the Thunderbird. I'm not aware of any 2009 gold-plated issues by the RCM. I believe you may have a coin that was gold-plated outside of the RCM; another member (poboxw) mentioned a mint in Germany in a different thread. Without a picture, however, I don't know exactly which coin you are referencing. If it's the coin I'm thinking of, many collectors would consider the coin "damaged" due to it being changed once it left the RCM and not be willing to pay more than its melt value (some would try to get it for less). Other collectors would likely pay a small premium over melt because they like its appearance. In either case, I don't believe it will ever have any significant numismatic premium. I'm not aware of the quantity made, hopefully another CCF'er will be able to help.

Seems to be a popular modification of the SMLs. I've seen others too but this ebay seller seems to be gilded them all including the wildlife series http://www.ebay.com/sch/muenzdachs/...0.m270.l1313I'm somewhat torn between them being destroyed coins on one hand and looking really nice on the other.

Thanks for the pic. Yeah, like Commems said, this coin was most likely gilded outside of the Mint. There is a German Mint that gilds all kinds of coins.

I'm picking up the wildlife series gilded because I like them. I don't intend to resell them so I'm not too worried about their resale value. In ebay auctions they've gone for up to twice the price of the 'mint' ones. Vintage Collectables just started posting the moose on ebay.

I loved the 2008 gilded commemorative. Still upset with myself for not buying it when I had the change at $50. Anyone know what it usually goes for nowadays on ebay auctions?

Silver was only trading at $13 back then, CC. I could have bought as many as I wanted at auction for $60 but I had a price in mind ($48) and was actually offered one at $50 but I turned my nose up because I thought silver might head south again and I'd get it for my price or lower if I held out. Boy, was I wrong.
