if you shop Ebay-Germany. I've used ebay Australia in the past with no problems, but there was obviously no language issue. Has anybody ever used a non-english ebay?

No, but I'm highly interested in the answer to the same question you have.

I got ripped off once from a guy in China. Yes, just once. I'm very sure on that. But I got a HUGE deal from a guy in the Netherlands on some error notes. He sent me messages in Dutch, but I just got an online translator. Got everything fine. He even messaged me regarding more US coins he had to sell.

I bought an item from German ebay. The guy typed pretty good English. Keep in mind English is an almost universal language and chances are they may have English skills. One way to find out would be to ask the seller a question in English.

Otherwise as mentioned resort to the online translators, although the Engrish they produce may possibly lead to misunderstandings I guess.

Thanks for the replies. The reason that I'm asking is that I've recently taken an interest in German State coinage. Unfortunately the supply of these coins from U.S. sellers is pretty limited. While doing some internet research I found out that these coins are quite popular with German collectors (I guess that should come as no surprise). Naturally, ebay Germany has a broader selection of these coins than its US counterpart, especially higher grade coins. I think that I'm going to have to expand my horizons this weekend. I'll start with something inexpensive and see how it turns out.
