One of the few sets I'm currently working on is the VOT in wreath reverses. I'm trying to get a nice coin of each emperor with this reverse type. This is a heavy coin with a green patina and what looks like some silvering on the coin in spots. 3.5grams 18mm

Apparently he was only about 9 when he was killed, poor kid. They portrayed him as older on the coins.

Nice coin, don't see many of these around. The mint nark looks like delta SIS, so I believe it RIC VII Siscia 155.

Nine year old emperor? That would explain the chubby, baby face on this coin.

Ok now I'm confused, I had this attributed as:
Licinius II LICINIVS-IVN NOB C L CAESARVM NOSTRORVM VOT V dot in badge at top of wreath delta SIS star Siscia RIC VII Siscia 162 s
Echizento you attributed it 155 so... Is it 155 then?

Jessvc1, I'm not seeing a star in the mint mark which would make it 155. It would be 162 if the mint mark was delta SIS star. My eyes aren't the best so I can be missing the star all together.

Nice coin jessvc1! That one is def Licinius II. I don't think I see a star in the mm either. There is something between the M in NOSTRORVM and the last S in SIS that you might have thought was a star, but it is just a ribbon from the wreath.

Quote: Yep - yet another who fell victim to Constantine's power-lust / blood-lust / paranoia / insecurity. Nope - Licinius I had plenty of chances to play nice but finally had to be put down. Leaving an heir apparent to surface in ten more years as a claimant to the purple just would not have been wise. As it turned out, Constantine could have done Rome a favor and killed a couple more of his own kids and saved Rome the civil wars that followed his death. Unfortunately, we never have a second chance at life decisions but I have to wonder how things would have gone if he had spared Crispus and killed Fausta and her three boys. The rules of power were a little different then (but not as much as we might like). 'What if' history is fun but pointless unless you get a job writing for an HBO series.
