hey guys just wondering if you could give some advice on what a coin is worth.

Valentinian I. Æ 4. Constantinople Mint.

Reign: Emperor, A.D. 364-375.
Denomination: Æ 4.
Diameter: 14 mm.
Weight: 2.01 grams.
Mint: Struck in Constantinople, A.D. 364-367.
Obverse: D. N. VALENTINIANVS P. F. AVG. Pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust r.
Reverse: RESTITVTOR REIP. Emperor standing facing, head r., holding labarum and Victory on globe; in exergue, CONSPÎ".
Reference: RIC 215, 20a.

If you go to Vcoins and search this emperor in ancients it should give you an idea.

I'd say in the range of $8-$15. Valentinian I is a fairly common emperor. The reverse type is uncommon, but not too rare.

The incomplete legends on the reverse above the standing figure detract from the value somewhat. Double the value otherwise.

And now you see the problem with ancient coin 'values'. Some of us see a rough surface with part legends and say $5 while others say it could be worse and $20. Mass marketers will sell such a coin for $29.95 to people who believe anything old is valuable. Collectors with more such coins than they want already will pass at any price.
