Posted this in the Ike thread but got no help - must of got lost in all of the other great looking Ike's. Anyway, I am not sure whats the deal with this Ike-is this doubling or what?

I'd help if I could. I do see doubling but not sure what caused it or if that's rare. Hope someone helps you soon! And is that a peg leg ike?

From your pics, especially the last one, the coin looks like it could be the 1972S-DDO-MD found on pg 156- Authoritative Ref on Eisenhower dollars Wexler/Crawford/Flynn
Second Edition 2007.


The doubling is from the master die and is extremely common and unfortunately does not carry any premium.


I'd still wait to see what other's might have to say on it as the split on the RU of Trust looks deeper on your coin than the one's shown on PG156.

Without a better or closeup pic of the earth, it is hard to tell, but you might have a type II variety of the 1972.

Repost under the Ike stuff to get fresh help from an expert.

The three 1972 varieties only apply to the Philadelphia minted coins. All 1972-S Dollars should have the Variety 2 reverse.

The doubling on the I and R look like MDD but the TRU does look like a doubled die.
