I know originals are rare and expensive, and that there are first and second restrikes, plus replicas and fakes.

In trying to get a feel for values on ebay, I saw a lot of 2nd restrike (damaged dies), unc, in original manila envelopes, certainly more than a mintage of 20,000 would justify, yet they go for $100 or more.

So are they real 2nd restrikes, or some other foolishness?

Even the Confederate pattern half dollar is rare. First time I came across a picture of one of these, was in an
'e-n-c-y-c-l-o-p-e-d-i-a', when I was a kid.

At least, I think that is how Jiminy Cricket spelled it!

Did I use the spell checker? ...... I'm not sayin!......
